Why this site exists
Because most storage advice online is photographed, not tested — and the gap between those two things is a cupboard full of plastic you never used.
Shelfwise started from a simple, annoying observation: the organising products that get recommended most are the ones that photograph well. Matching bins in soft light. A pantry that looks like a shop. Very little of it survives contact with a real house where four people are trying to find their keys at the same time.
How we choose what to recommend
Every pick on this site has to clear three tests. It has to fit standard dimensions without modification, because the most common reason organisers get returned is that they simply don't go in the space. It has to be made of something appropriate for the room — this matters far more in a damp bathroom or a cold garage than people expect. And it has to be usable in one motion, because anything requiring more effort than the mess it replaces gets abandoned within a fortnight.
We also write about what not to buy. A recommendation site that only ever recommends isn't giving you information, it's giving you a catalogue.
How we make money
Shelfwise is funded by affiliate commissions. When you click through to Amazon from this site and buy something, we receive a small percentage of the sale, and you pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise.
The obvious question is whether that influences what we recommend. The honest answer is that the incentive exists, so here's how we handle it: commission rates in this category barely vary between products, so there's no meaningful financial reason to steer you toward one bin over another. Where we do have a view, we say it plainly, including when the view is that the cheaper option is the better one, or that you shouldn't buy anything at all.

What we don't do
We don't accept payment for placement, we don't publish sponsored posts dressed up as reviews, and we don't run "best of" lists that are really just the ten highest-commission items in a category.
